Australian Poster Biennale exhibition
Designers were invited to create posters as a response to the theme “A mother’s life is precious”. The 40 finalist posters deal with a range of issues surrounding women’s rights, women’s health and maternal mortality. These posters assemble a vibrant and diverse set of works and opinions from around the globe. Don’t miss it.

Alain Le Quernec, distinguished professor of art and eminent graphic designer, lives in Quimper, France, working mainly for cultural, social and political purposes. Alain is a member of Alliance Graphique Internationale and participates as a presenter and jury member at graphic design festivals and competitions around the world. Alongside his activities as a designer, he has organised exhibitions of posters by other luminaries such as Shigeo Fukuda, Uwe Loesch and Jan Lenica, and by leading Iranian graphic designers. Alain's own work has also been widely shown, including solo exhibitions at the Nantes Museum, Nantes, France (1981); Musée de l'affiche, Paris, France (1987); the Modern Art Museum, Tel Aviv, Israel (1992); DDD Gallery, Osaka, Japan (1996); GGG Gallery, Tokyo, Japan (1996); The Centre for Engravings and Prints, La Louvière, Belgium (1997); Galerie Anatome, Paris, France (2001); the Contemporary Art Centre, Carré Sainte-Anne, France (2003); the Modern Art Museum, Bogota, Colombia (2005); the National Museum, Poznan, Poland (2009); and the Poster Museum, Essen, Germany (2009).

Polish poster art 1952-84 comprises 65 works from the renowned Gerard Herbst Poster Collection.

Mark Gowing has been designing identities, books and posters for 25 years and is driven by the
belief that design is as much about feeling as it is about understanding. Mark’s work has been exhibited and published around the world. He has received numerous international awards including New York Type Directors Club excellence awards, Tokyo Type Directors Club excellence awards, Graphis Poster Annual Platinum and Gold awards as well as a Golden Bee Laureate Award. In 2008 Mark became the first Australian to win the Gold Medal at the Warsaw International Poster Biennale, which has since been followed by a Gold Medal at the Mexico International Poster Biennale in 2012.
